Build whole units and know their true built cost

Assemble whole-goods units from parts, labour and sublet, track cost in Work In Progress, then capitalise the true built cost onto the finished unit.

Overview

Dealers that build or kit up whole units from parts, labour and sublet have never had a clean way to capture what the finished unit actually cost. Parts get pulled from the shelf, a fitter spends a day on the assembly, a specialist job goes out to sublet, and none of it lands on one costed record. The unit rolls onto the floor valued on guesswork, which quietly distorts margin the moment it sells. MDMS closes that gap with a manufacturing module built around a real bill of materials.

You define a BOM template with its lines, recursive sub-assemblies and a scrap allowance, then raise an assembly order to build the unit. As you consume parts they are relieved from stock at actual cost and accrue to Work In Progress, where labour flowing in from the Labour module and any sublet costs are tracked alongside them against a running built-cost total. When the build is complete you capitalise that true built cost into a new whole-goods unit, clearing WIP to zero, and every step posts to the general ledger automatically so the finance side is never left to catch up by hand.

What's included

  • Recursive BOM templates with scrap allowance
  • Assembly orders that build a whole unit
  • WIP by parts, labour and sublet
  • Capitalise the true built cost to a unit

How it works

  1. Define a BOM template with lines, sub-assemblies and scrap allowance
  2. Raise an assembly order and consume parts, labour and sublet into WIP
  3. Complete the build to capitalise the built cost and clear WIP to zero

Inside Manufacturing & BOM

Manage BOM templates for the units you build and track each assembly order live, with parts, labour and sublet rolling into a running built-cost total so you always know what the unit really costs.
