Feature packs: optional features you switch on when you need them
A feature pack is an optional capability inside an MDMS module, such as invoicing a long job in stages or paying commission by product group. Packs are switched on by an administrator for the business (one, price books and itemised quoting, starts on for new accounts), so a workshop sees only the screens and rules it has chosen to use.
Included with your module subscription at no extra charge. An administrator switches each pack on for your business in Admin > Features.
How feature packs work
Every dealership runs differently. One workshop bills warranty and customer work on the same job card, another never does. One parts counter lives on back orders, another sells over the counter and never waits on stock. Rather than put every setting in front of everyone, MDMS keeps these capabilities as packs that sit inside the modules you already use and, apart from price books and itemised quoting, stay quiet until someone turns them on.
Each pack below says what it does in plain words, which modules it belongs to, what has to be switched on first, and, just as important, what it does not do. If a pack is reporting only, or covers work orders but not sales orders, the page says so. The limits are written from how the product behaves today, not from what might be wanted tomorrow.
You can look at most packs in a trial before deciding they suit the business. Switch it on, work through the screens as a real role, and switch it off again if it is not for you. Each pack page says if a pack works differently.
Find the pack
Browse by the part of the business it helps, from the workshop to the parts counter, the sales desk, the equipment yard and the hire fleet.
Switch it on
An administrator opens Admin > Features and switches the pack on for the business. Packs that build on another one tell you what to switch on first.
Use it in your role
The new screens and rules appear where the work happens, and each person sees only what their role allows.
Workshop packs for jobs, billing and technician time
For workshops that bill in stages, split warranty from customer work, or want a clear record of where technician hours go.
Work order job segments
Organise a work order by fault, each with its own Bill to, technician, parts, labour, checklist and photos.
Sales desk packs for quotes, margin and commission
For sales teams that quote machines with options and trade-ins, control who sees margin, and pay commission on more than a flat rate.
Parts counter packs for stock, ordering and delivery
For parts departments that want better reorder points, fair allocation of scarce stock, one cost method and proof that goods arrived.
Equipment yard packs for machine stock targets
For dealers who want a written minimum and maximum for the machines each branch should hold.
Hire fleet packs for downtime and profit
For rental managers who need to know which machines earn and which spend their time in the workshop.
Administration packs for alerts, data and access
For owners and office managers who want early warnings, cleaner records, stable customer references and tighter branch access.

- What is a feature pack in MDMS?
- A feature pack is an optional capability that belongs to one or more MDMS modules. An administrator switches it on for the business, and some packs build on others. Starter bundles on the pricing page are a different thing: they pre-tick a set of modules.
- Do feature packs cost extra?
- Included with your module subscription at no extra charge. An administrator switches each pack on for your business in Admin > Features.
- How do I switch a pack on?
- An administrator opens Admin > Features, finds the pack under Optional features and switches it on. If the pack needs another one first, the screen tells you which. Price books and itemised quoting is the exception: new accounts start with it on, and an existing account asks MDMS support to switch it on.
- Can I try a pack during the free trial?
- For most packs, yes: switch the pack on in your trial, work through it as the roles that would use it, and switch it off again if it does not suit. Price books and itemised quoting is the exception, because it starts on for new accounts and is not an administrator switch. Check each pack's page for anything that has to be on first.
- Which packs work with MDMS AI?
- Several packs add questions you can ask MDMS AI, which reads the pack's information for you. MDMS AI is an optional add-on with its own price, needs an AI seat, and what it can answer depends on your modules and role. Each pack page says whether it has an AI example.
