The overview

What hide cost and margin is

A quote screen that shows margin to everyone makes every conversation about discount a conversation about what the dealership paid. Hide cost and margin removes the margin badge, the margin bar and the profitability card from quotes and sales orders for roles outside management and finance, so the screen they work from is about the customer and the machine.

It is a presentation setting and the page is honest about that. The figures remain in the database; this pack changes what is drawn, not what is stored. On the standard quote screen and its line editor the Cost and Margin columns and the total-cost rows are hidden as well. The price book quote screen does not follow this switch; it decides who sees cost and margin with its own role check. A dealership that needs to keep cost from certain staff should treat the switch as one layer, with role design and training alongside it, rather than as a lock.

Management and finance roles keep every view they have today. The switch is in Admin > Features, so a trial administrator can turn it on, look at the quote screen as a counter role, and turn it off again.

Rolling it out is a small decision rather than a project. Nothing is configured per user: the pack follows each person's existing role, which is why management and finance see no change. If the business later needs a firmer boundary around cost, the sensible next conversation is about which roles hold which permissions, and this pack makes that conversation visible by showing exactly what a counter role sees today.

Where hide cost and margin stops

Stated as it behaves today, so you can judge the fit before you switch it on.

  • Is a screen-level setting only: the figures stay in the database and are not a security control
  • Does not apply to the price book quote screen, which decides who sees cost and margin by its own role check
  • Does not change what management and finance roles see
A working example

Hide cost and margin in a working day

A dealer principal is tired of the same argument at the counter: a customer glances at a screen and sees the margin bar on a quote. She switches on the pack, logs in as a sales role, and checks the quote. The headline price, lines and customer details are all there; the margin badge, bar and profitability card are not. On the standard quote screen the Cost and Margin columns are gone too, and she notes that price book quotes follow their own role check instead.
