What commission matrix is
A flat percentage works until the business sells a machine, a pallet of filters and a service in the same invoice. The commission matrix lets a plan treat each kind of line differently, and it does it line by line rather than on the invoice total.
In Commissions > Plans, a manager creates a matrix plan and defines product groups. Rules decide which group a line falls into, using line type, part category, brand, price group or equipment category, and the first matching rule wins; anything unmatched goes to the Default group. Product groups are the same groups used for pricing, so they are created and assigned under Commissions > Configure > Product groups. Each group then pays either a flat rate or a rate picked by the line's margin band.
Bands can be measured two ways. By default a plan's tiers apply to margin on sell price; a plan can instead use markup on cost. Lines with no recorded cost are not held back: they are paid at the group's required no-cost rate. When a commission is paid, the amount is frozen on the entry. Voiding reverses it exactly, and statements and the ledger only ever see that entry amount, so a later change to a rule cannot rewrite history.
The configuration screens are part of the same flow. Product groups are created and assigned under Commissions > Configure > Product groups, parts are assigned to them there, and rules can target a product group directly. That means the structure a dealership already uses for pricing doubles as the structure for paying people, rather than a second list to keep in step.
Part of these modules
What commission matrix covers
- Adds matrix plans under Commissions > Plans
- Classifies each invoice line by rules on line type, part category, brand, price group or equipment category; the first match wins, else the Default group
- Pays each group a flat rate or a rate chosen by the line's margin band
- Lets each plan measure its bands as margin on sell price (the default) or markup on cost
- Freezes the amount on each entry when paid; voiding reverses it exactly
Where commission matrix stops
Stated as it behaves today, so you can judge the fit before you switch it on.
- Needs the Commissions module switched on
- Does not change flat plans, which stay as they are
- Lines with no cost are paid at the group's no-cost rate, not held back
- Statements and the ledger see only the frozen entry amount
Commission matrix in a working day
The sales manager wants machine sales rewarded on margin, parts counter sales on a flat rate, and labour excluded. She creates three product groups, writes the rules, and gives machines three margin bands. A rep who sells a machine at a thin margin earns a lower band; the parts rep earns the flat rate on every line; labour lines match the group set to zero. At month end the statement shows each frozen amount, line by line.
